Question: VERICO just held its first Licensee Retreat – how would you describe this 2 day event?
Brian: When events come up – people wonder if they can afford the time. This event proved to add that value for time. It was of course great entertainment with networking opportunities but the business value was excellent. Our industry speaker – Yousry Bissada was the best I’ve ever seen at an industry event. He gave us a great perspective on today’s market. One of the other points of huge value was connecting with some of the presidents of our lending partners. It was interesting to hear their side of the industry and position. I think it gave us all a great understanding. From beginning to end – this conference was very well done.
Question: National Advisory Council had a day of meetings – what was the goal and was that accomplished?
Brian: NAC has an ongoing agenda and that is to give feedback to VERICO Canada, provide ideas, test new programs and be the voice of the membership. While other companies are very top down in their approach – VERICO is very much bottom up. They want to hear from their members and implement things to assist in their business not just to add to the company policy. It was great to have an in person NAC meeting as there is always a positive synergy and energy when we gather to brainstorm and share thoughts.

Question: Was there one item you could take away and apply to your business?
Brian: Lots of items. What I took away was a reminder to stay in tune with the market, learning more what lenders are facing and staying in touch with your database and how important that is during changing times.
Question: What is one word that would describe this event?
Brian: Inspirational!
Question: For those members thinking of attending the Licensee Retreat in 2011 – why should they go?
Brian: To succeed – you need to put time into your business. There are lots of changes going on and to have the opportunity to connect with fellow business owners, hear from VERICO Canada and be provided with valuable business building sessions is in my opinion a must. This retreat gets you to look again at your business and walk away with an enthusiasm that you can bring to your team and clients. For all those on the fence for next year – jump in and join the VERICO Licensee Retreat.
